House to Housing

This project reimagines the townhouse typology in Los Angeles by reconfiguring massing, circulation, and landscape to renegotiate public-private thresholds and promote collective inhabitation.

Pedestrian and vehicular access are vertically staggered to decouple housing from car infrastructure, enabling elevated communal spaces between units. These interstitial voids and eroded platforms foster shared use and permeability while a commercial plinth grounds the project in its urban context.

Through articulated envelopes and strategic openness, the design supports light, ventilation, and spatial variation—advancing a shift from house to housing as a framework for density, adjacency, and social interaction.
