Extinct in the Wild
Project Type
Architecture
Date
April 2035
The project is located next to the LA River, in Frogtown, Los Angeles. The main objective is to serve as a container of natural plants that are extinct in the wild and that are being preserved in a controlled environment.
Through the analysis of structural arches and a series of skylights the building establishes an order and an organization, where walls become more porous and permeable at the greenhouse and more solid where the exhibition, offices, herbarium, and research rooms are located.
It follows a cruciform organization that is marked by a set of apertures in the roof that bring illumination and generate interesting sources of light and shadow, depending on the characteristics and demands of the space. The circulation acts like a loop circling the two greenhouses, the program buildings, and connecting the existing bike path of the site.
